Beyonce, Reese Witherspoon, Cara Delevingne and Kelly Brook show you the way to go
The wob (wavy bob) may be the cut of the season, but don’t let anyone tell you long hair is going out of style: it’s not.
The chicest up-dos, the glossiest waves and the beachiest boufs – long hair is so much fun…
1. Reese Witherspoon
A centre parting is a key part of the 70s trend, but Reese adds a 2015 twist by pairing it with gentle curls starting from chin-level down, rather than going for a dead-straight ’do (which would be a bit too Abba).
2. Suki Waterhouse
This is how you do the salt spray scrunch, and it works especially well if you have medium-to-thick hair like Suki. Scrunch the product through your hair, then leave to air-dry: perfect for holidays. Combine salt spray with leave-in conditioner if your hair is on the dry side.
3. Victoria Beckham
The loose, high bun is in, so no more scraped-back Croydon face lifts for VB, who, of course, knows that ruffled texture is so much more now. This loosely pinned high bun is a youthful yet chic style, and of course is even better if you have killer cheekbones to show off.
“The high ponytail has lots of drama with the extreme height of the pony (very now),” says James Brunt, advanced director at Nicky Clarke. “It’s great for adding height, and so slimming your overall look. Recreate it by tonging the ends of your hair with a wand and gently combing through.”
5. Kelli Gloss
Braids like US actress Kelli’s are huge for summer, says hair supremo Charles Worthington. “They suit everyone, but look especially soft and feminine on blondes, as you can see all the hair’s different sunkissed tones woven into a plait.”
6. Holland Roden
The combo of beehive and wavy ponytail, as seen on actress Holland, has a pretty 60s feel, with lots of natural texture rather than being scraped back. Take hair back with your fingers, rather than a comb, to keep it casual, and wear the pony low at the neck.
7. Kelly Brook
“The casual undone wave is big at the moment, moving away from more formal curls,” says Tresemmé ambassador Jamie Stevens. To get Kelly’s look, “Tong the hair in big sections, twisting it as you wrap it round the barrel, and leave the ends uncurled. Always shake hair through with fingers, don’t brush it.”
8. Blake Lively
“This is a real Hollywood glamour style,” says James. “With the flat roots and tonged lengths swept over one shoulder, this is elegant and polished.” Recreate it yourself by brushing out the curls to give the look a looser, less ringlet-like finish, then pin in place.
9. Amanda Holden
You can have really sleek hair without it looking flat and plastered to your head, 90s-style. Amanda knows long layers are the key to this look. Use large plate straighteners to get hair glossy and smooth, then use the curved edge of the plate to kick hair out at the ends.
10. Cara Delevingne
“A great red carpet look with a trendy, thick side plait. Cara’s softly tonged hair around the braid has been swept to one side and placed over the plait to give it an undone finish,” says James. “Curl your hair first, then run fingers through it to loosen them, before braiding the ends.”
